Biography: Don has over 14 years of litigation experience including five years in private practice, two years as a Montana Assistant Attorney General in the Risk Management and Tort Defense Division, and five years with the Montana Advocacy Program - a disability civil rights law firm.

Don is an active citizen in the Helena community and the State of Montana. His civic activities include: Helena School Board Trustee, 2000- present, Board Chair, 2006-2007; Montana School Boards Association, Director, 2003-present; Montana Vocational Rehabilitation Council, 2003-2007; Montana Transportation Partnership, 2002-2005.

Don lives in Helena, Montana with his wife, Sandy Jones, and their three children: Lindsay, Emilee, and Bryson.  Sandy teaches the fifth grade at Four Georgians Elementary. Lindsay attends Capitol H.S., Emilee is at C.R. Anderson M.S, and Bryson is at Hawthorne Elementary.

Prior to law school, Don worked ten years as a machinist and a robotics programmer for the Boeing Company in Seattle.

Member:  American Bar Association; Montana Trial Lawyers Association; Sons and Daughters of Montana Pioneers. 

Biography:  Phil began his legal career as associate appellate counsel with the Criminal Appeals Bureau of the New York Legal Aid Society, and then served as a staff attorney at the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.  He then worked at the Montana Advocacy Program from 2002 to 2007, where he represented clients in state and federal courts and administrative agencies in cases of discrimination in employment, education, government services, and public accommodations.  Phil served as a member of the Courthouse Access Advisory Committee from 2004 through 2006, and a member of the Montana Transportation Partnership from 2005 through 2007. Phil recently recieved the Montana Trial Lawyers Association’s Appellate Advocacy Award for 2008-2009.  

Phil has deep Montana roots.  His great grandmother was Harriet Rankin, the sister of Montana congresswoman Jeannette Rankin and Montana lawyer Wellington Rankin.  Phil lives in Helena with his wife Andrea Rankin (coincidentally), who works for the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education.  Their children James and Lea attend Hawthorne Elementary School.
